About the Event

In this family-friendly workshop presented and designed by local tribal member Stephanie Craig, participants will learn how to work with tule and make a traditional duck decoy. Tule is a sacred plant to many tribal people along the West Coast, with incredibly diverse uses in the domestic realm, including creating housing, bedding, baskets, seat cushions, and even boats. Tule is also used to make ceremonial items.

    Presented and designed by Stephanie Craig, this workshop has specifically been created with families in mind. We recommend that kids are at least 6 yrs old to participate. Come learn about the traditional lifeways of the Kalapuya; including traditional ecological knowledge, plants and uses, family belongings and more! In this workshop, participants will learn how to work with tule, and make a traditional duck decoy.
