An addendum to the Early History of Independence, by Sid Newton, $4.00

This booklet is an addendum to the Early History of Independence, Oregon. Drawings are by Delores Newton White. Mrs. Cora Hubbard had written a paper to be read at a Women’s Club meeting in 1918. The article contained information told to her by early settlers. The names of many prominent pioneers are mentioned as well as each postmaster from the early 1800’s, horseback rider Mr. Lankester, to the post master appointed in December 1979, Mr. L.L. Moving West on the Drain Covered Wagon

Mr. Roudebaugh traveled with his wife, Kiwanda and daughters, Janell and Judy on the Oregon Trail in 1959. This day to day diary tells of the ‘modern day’ hardships as well as some of the conveniences they experienced during their 4-month ordeal. This wagon train was part of the Oregon Centennial. Over a million people came to see the wagons travel the trail. This figure does not include the thousands that lined the streets in the cities and towns the wagons traveled through. The Heritage Museum still houses the Independence wagon purchased by the local Junior J.C.’s club for $1,500. Locals who visited the wagons customarily signed their names on the canvas’. The folks in Topeka, KS, were very enthusiastic about signing the canvas. First Edition, 82 pp.
The proceeds from this book are being generously donated by his daughters to the Heritage Museum Annex fund.

Loaded with photographs and recipes from open fire and dutch oven cooking to modern day favorites. Many of the original members of the wagon train that traveled from Independence, Missouri to Independence, Oregon in 1959 compiled this cookbook. The trip was a large part of the Oregon Centennial Celebration and reported worldwide. 100% of all profits from sales will go to the Heritage Museum Building Annex Fund.
